Welcome to the
Osnabrück Christmas Market
Osnabrück belongs to the association of Historic Highlights of Germany (13 cities in total). Situated in the middle of a nature reserve Osnabrück is surrounded by a charming countryside.
The major part of the Osnabrück Christmas Market takes place on the market square and in front of the Cathedral St. Peter.
Adorned and transformed with festive illuminations the historical Christmas Market has twice been ranked as one of the prettiest in the region.
To get into a perfect Christmas mood, the air of the festively lit Christmas market and the old historical quarter, with its beautiful medieval half-timbered houses, is filled with the scent of mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, freshly prepared sweets and grilled sausages. A regional specialty to try is the Käsegriller, a special kind of sausage with cheese.
For a truly magical Christmas experience discover the historic city and all its amazing attractions. See the world’s largest musical box, which plays 25 different tunes to the sound of Christmas carols, or be amazed by the world’s biggest functioning Nutcracker, which stands at an impressive six metres tall.
Soak up the seasonal atmosphere and enjoy watching the children's merry-go-round, superbly made by skilled old-world craftsmen from 1907, which revolves while playing some of the most enchanting Christmas carols.
Further seasonal carols and concerts are provided by the churches, next to the Christmas Market, including St. Marien, the Cathedral, St. Katharinen and St. Johann, with daily performances of festive organ music and talented choirs.
There is also a silent Christmas market near the HegerTor gate, where wooden huts offer a taste ofthe Renaissance in the glow of lamps and candlelight.
For the children, St. Nikolaus visits each day to open a window on the huge Advent calendar in front of the City Hall.
