Welcome to the
Leipzig Christmas Market
The focal point of Leipzig's traditional Christmas market is the beautiful old market square in front of the Old Town Hall.
The history of Leipzig's Christmas market goes all the way back to 1458
It is one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas Markets in Germany with around 250 twinkling stalls located on the city's historical market square.
Attractions include a fairytale forest, a model railway display on Augustusplatz and Old Medieval Christmas Market.
At the Leipzig Christmas Market there is plenty of seasonal entertainment to enjoy, including daily trumpet fanfares, Christmas concerts held by the world famous St. Thomas's choir, and performances of Bach's Christmas Oratorio in the city's numerous churches, leaving the audience enchanted with every performance.
The old town hall is not only the place where Johann Sebastian Bach signed his employment contract, as cantor and Leipzig's musical director, but it is also one of the most beautiful Renaissance town halls in Germany.
The old town hall was built between 1556 and 1557 in just nine months and today holds plenty of history from various different centuries.
