Wiesbaden Christmas Market

Wiesbaden Christmas Market

Picturesque Schlossplatz is the spectacular setting for Wiesbaden's Sternschnuppenmarkt (Shootingstars) Christmas market.

The decorations - golden lilies and the colours blue and gold - at the Wiesbaden nostalgic craft market reflect the town's coat of arms.

Visitors enter this fairytale scene through four lily gates decorated with stars. For children there are Nativity plays, story time and ice skating.

About the Town of Wiesbaden

Wiesbaden is variously described as the "Nice of the North", the gateway to the Rheingau, or the city of villas. The city has an illustrious history as a health resort due to its hot springs. The glorious architecture of the Wilhelminian era, lush parks and gardens and a wide choice of cultural events are the prominent features of this elegant city on the Rhine.

Wiesbaden's focal point and main landmarks are the spa assembly rooms and elegant casino, built in 1907 under the aegis of Kaiser Wilhelm II. Other highlights are the Hessian State Theatre, the historical old quarter with the palace, the old and the new town hall and the neo-Gothic Market Church, as well as baroque Biebrich Palace on the banks of the Rhine and Neroberg hill with its Russian Church.

The area near the spa assembly rooms has restaurants offering fine dining in elegant surroundings – Käfer’S, for instance, inside the spa centre. Traditional regional dishes are served at a variety of restaurants in the old quarter including the Dortmunder and Weinhaus Kögler. The lively Goldgasse is lined with restaurants offering a wide range of international cuisine.
