One
weekend In December the old town of Tübingen is dominated by the
Christmas fair and the many visitors, who come from all over
Germany.
The
smell of mulled wine or hot chocolate for children, served in
specially designed Christmas mugs, roasted almonds and the aromatic
taste of a Swabian dish called “Krautschupfnudeln” (you can even eat
the plate) are tempting every visitor. Kebap and Pizza, Langos and
Chinese food are adding an exotic touch, not unknown in Tübingen,
and help to create an unforgettable and distinctive atmosphere.
About
450 Christmas fair stalls are erected in front of the beautiful
half-timbered houses and leave you with the feeling of warmth and
friendliness. The roads and paths are bathed in the soft light of
the candles and street lamps. No booth looks like the other. Most of
them are originals and especially designed and lovingly decorated
just for the occasion.
Furthermore, the Christmas fair is spread all over the charming
city. From the lower town to the Krumme Brücke, from the
Kornhausstraße to the Market place. And stalls are situated at the
Holzmarkt, the Neckargasse, the Neue Straße and at the Nonnenhaus as
well.
If
you are looking for an extraordinary, special, but also typical
Christmas fair, Tübingen is the ideal place. Most of the goods
offered are home-made: jam and honey, shawls and gloves, cups and
plates, toys and paintings, candles and Christmas tree decoration.
Many fascinated visitors are inspired in regard to their own
Christmas shopping and the following year most of them are going to
come back to Tübingen for that occasion
Still, that’s not all you can expect from your visit in Tübingen.
There are many other attractions like a historic merry-go-round, a
program designed for children with films, clowns and magicians, as
well as many orchestras and choirs. |
