Variety is the spice of Christmas life in Potsdam - starting with:

1) the traditional Old Potsdam Christmas Market in the historical town centre close to Sanssouci Palace.

Next 2) is the Bohemian Christmas market in Babelsberg's bohemian village.

Then 3) there is the historical Romantic Christmas market at Bornstedt crown estate (a UNESCO World Heritage site)

and 4) the Sinterklaas or St. Nicholas Christmas market located in the Dutch quarter of Potsdam.

Last but not least 5) is the Sternenmarkt (Star Market) on the Neuer Markt, where Germany's neighbours from Poland will be offering a different kind of crafts, cuisine and beverages complimented with exciting events on stage.

About the Town of Potsdam

Potsdam's main attractions, its palaces and parks, bear witness to the days when Potsdam was the summer residence of the Prussian kings. Sanssouci Palace and Park, built by Frederick the Great, are the crowning glory in this magnificent collection. Today, the town's reputation as a lively centre of culture and learning is enhanced by the fascinating architecture of its historical districts - the Dutch quarter, the Russian colony of Alexandrovka and the exclusive residential area of Babelsberg - and the many events staged in Potsdam's palaces.

Potsdam's palaces and gardens are among the most beautiful places to visit. Palaces such as Sanssouci and Babelsberg, Cecilienhof and the New Palace are striking reminders of Potsdam's role in German history. The historical districts such as the Russian colony of Alexandrovka, the weavers' quarter and the Dutch quarter give Potsdam a real European feel.
