Welcome to the
Oberhausen Christmas Market
In Oberhausen there are two Christmas Markets, one in the old town market square and the other at CentrO, europe's most modern shopping and leisure centre.
In the city centre the Oberhausen Christmas Market is transformed into a forest of Christmas Trees, which looks especially romantic when it snows; it is almost like having a Christmas Market in the middle of the Black Forest.
Here, thirty beautifully decorated stalls offer a wide range of food, hot Glühwein and hand made Christmas gifts.
A variety of daily performances and events will take place on the "Forest Stage", ranging from irish folk music to hunting horn concerts or some local theatre performances.
For children there is a historic carousel, and
at the weekend, Friday to Sunday, big Bob will make a daily appearance at 4pm, as Farther Christmas, handing out presents to the little ones.
For the ultimate shopping experience Centro offers an incredible Christmas Market with over 150 wooden stalls.
During the festive season the mall is transformed with over 3 million light bulbs, 65,000 new Christmas decorations and more than 4,000 crystals, all sparkling fabulously.
For food and drink there is a traditional alpine hut offering delicious ham and cheese platters.
Other Christmas market highlights include a glassblowing factory, the original Coca Cola truck, as seen on TV, a 20 metre high Christmas wish tree and a range of top class music performances.
Located in the heart of the Ruhr region, Oberhausen is offering two Christmas markets which is very different to any other Christmas market in Germany.
Oberhausen has a lot to offer. Once the cradle of heavy industry in the Ruhr region, Oberhausen has now become a modern city with a variety of leisure and cultural opportunities.
Oberhausen has a population of 220,000 and is an attractive destination for outings, short trips, city tours and shopping.
With CentrO at its heart and the new city centre, Oberhausen is a star attraction for many shoppers from all over Europe. CentrO is part of a large commercial development called the "Neue Mitte". Also included in the new centre is a beautifully landscaped park and the Marktstraße, which is a shopping promenade, extending to over one kilometre with plenty of department stores, specialty shops and cafés.
Located not far from the main station is an other shopping centre called "BERO-Einkaufszentrum", a large building that offers everything under one roof. With a sales area covering 45,000 m2 and an excellent mixture of every day items and convenience goods, it attracts on average 22,000 visitors on a daily basis.
At a 100-metres tall, the Gasometer, a former gas storage container, is only a few minutes walk away from the city centre. Open to the public as a museum the Gasometer is an important industrial monument and a popular tourist attraction.
Other tourist attractions, in the former industrial city, include a Sea Life Centre aquarium and the König-Pilsener Arena which hosts numerous high profile pop and rock concerts, staged by many international stars.
