Enjoy a real romantic winter atmosphere at the Christmas market on Lindau's harbour and Lake Constance.

Stroll through an evocative scene of festively decorated Christmas market stalls, along the old picturesque town quarter or along Lindau's beautiful harbour.

On a good day the harbour is the best place to admire a fantastic silhouette of snow covered Alpine mountains across Germany's largest lake. At night the harbour is turned into a fairytale scene when over 6000 lightbulbs are switched on.

Lindau's famous harbour, is still regarded today as the most attractive anywhere on Lake Constance, it was completed in 1856. The 6m high monument with a lion looking overlooking the lake is a work by a sculptor called Johann von Halbing.

To explore the island town of Lindau you might want to join the town's night watchman on a tour of the old quarter and through the best parts of Lindau's Christmas Market.

On a cold day a traditional hot punch or a glühwein will help you keep out the cold as you listen to daily Christmas concerts.

If you fancy a bit of ice skating head for Lindau's district of Reutin where you can enjoy ice skating with fantastic views of Lake Constance and the Alps at the same time.

Discover Lindau

Lindau lies in Bavaria, just across the border from Austria and the German state of Baden Württemberg.

Notably Lindau is an island on the eastern part of lake Constance but it is also a beautiful historical old town with typical Allgäu and Bavarian style architecture.

The main landmark in Lindau is its port entrance, together with a distinctive lighthouse and a large sculpture of a Bavarian lion .

Other important highlights of Lindau is the historic town hall, a cathedral and a number of lavishly decorated churches, all with amazing Italian style interiors.

Switzerland and Austria are just across the water and excursions to the snow covered Alpine mountains are not far away.
