Welcome to the
Bernkastel-Kues Christmas Market
Every yuletide season, visitors flock to see the amazing medieval Christmas Market in Bernkastel-Kues, on the moselle, with its more than 40 miniature half-timbered houses.
The narrow little streets with their quaint romantic houses make the perfect Christmas market setting.
On Saturday the 4th December 2011, a special Christmas Market highlight will take place at Bernkastel-Kues, when about a 100 swimmers plunge into the freezing cold water of the Moselle, each brave individual is "armed" with a burning torch in his hand.
Starting their lightening-tour from Kues harbour through the waters up to Bernkastel, they are followed by oarsmen, in an adorned skiff, as they accompany the bishop of St. Nicolas, on a large boat, standing underneath an illuminated wreath.
Arriving at 6pm in Bernkastel, St. Nicolas - "Friend of all children" - distributes chocolate gifts to the little ones. This incredible spectacle is certainly unique and not to be missed.
Every day at 5.30 pm a new advent door is opened in the regions largest advent calendar. Connoisseurs and wine lovers will probably enjoy some of the fine wine tasting events. With Bernkastel-Kues being in the middle of a world renowned wine growing region, only the best, red or white wines are being used to produce the all essential glowing Glühwines. A trip to Bernkastel-Kues is highly recommended.
